J097 (Excessive Skew)

Cause:

  • The side fences of the paper feed tray are not positioned correctly.

  • The paper type is not specified correctly.

  • Colored paper or envelopes are being fed.

  • Sheets of mixed paper types, thickness, or colors are loaded in the same paper feed tray.

  • The surface of the CIS sensor in the transfer unit is stained with paper dust.

Solution:

1Fan the paper.

For details, see Fanning the Paper.

2Correctly position the side fences and end fence of the paper feed tray.

3Print and check if J097 has been resolved.

Yes

Finished!

No

If the paper is being fed from the machine's paper feed tray, go to the next step.

If the paper is being fed from the Vacuum Feed LCIT RT5150 (LCT) adopting the air pick system, see Excessive Skew/Shifting (J097, J098).

4Check if the paper is stained with any paper dust.

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Proceed to Step 7.

5Clean the CIS sensor surface (dust-proof glass) and the CIS light-shielding material (black felt).

For details, see Cleaning the CIS Glass and Cleaning Contact Image Sensor Back Plate.

6Print and check if J097 has been resolved.

Yes

Finished!

No

Go to the next step.

7In [Detailed settings] for custom paper, select 1331-06: [Jam Detection], and then check the value for [Paper Edge Detection].

If [Paper Edge Detection] is set to "+5", set Detect/Control JAM047/097/098 in JAM047/080/097/098/099 to [Off].

If not, go to the next step.

8Increase the value for [Paper Edge Detection] by one step.

9Print and check if J097 has been resolved.

Yes

Finished!

No

Start over from Step 8.

If the problem persists even after increasing the value to "+5," there is no other solution.

Note

  • If the skew detection level is lowered or the skew detection is turned off, excessive skew or shifting may occur.
