Removing Jammed Paper

WARNING

  • Do not remove any covers or screws other than those explicitly mentioned in this manual. Inside this machine are high voltage components that are an electric shock hazard. Contact your sales or service representative if any of the machine's internal components require maintenance, adjustment, or repair.

  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify this machine. Doing so risks burns and electric shock.

CAUTION

  • Be careful when replacing the roll paper or removing misfed paper. Follow the instructions for these procedures properly. Not doing so could result in injury from the paper cutter inside.

  • When removing jammed paper, make sure not to trap or injure your fingers.

Important

  • When removing paper misfeeds, do not turn off the power. If you do, the configured functions and values will be lost.

  • To prevent paper misfeeds, do not leave any torn scraps of paper inside the machine.

  • If paper jams continue to occur, see When You Have Problems Operating the Machine, When You Cannot Make Copies As Wanted, and Other Printing Problems for details about how to resolve the problem. If the actions recommended in this manual cannot resolve the problem, contact your service representative.

  • If the error message remains displayed even after you remove misfed paper, fully open the front cover, and then close it.

  • Do not load paper immediately after you remove misfed paper from the paper bypass location. Close the front cover after you remove the paper, and then wait until the “Please wait.” message disappears from the screen before loading paper into the paper bypass location again.

  • Wrap the paper tightly to the paper core so that there is no gap between the paper and the paper core. If there is a gap between them, the paper holder may spin while the paper roll remains still, which may cause a paper jam.

Note

  • If a detailed removal instruction appears on the right of the screen, follow it.

  • You can also use the procedure indicated in the [Check Status] screen to remove jammed paper.

  • When you remove misfed paper, the machine's internal components may become smeared with ink on the printed side of the misfed paper, causing the reverse side of paper to become dirty. If the reverse side of paper becomes dirty after you remove misfed paper, clean the paper output location and the platen. For details about how to clean the paper output location and the platen, see "Cleaning the Platen", Maintenance and Specifications.
