The printed image is smudged. |
Settings for thick paper have not been made for printing on thick paper in the paper bypass location. |
Only when using PostScript 3 On the printer driver's [Detailed Settings] tab, click [Paper] in "Menu:", and then select [Paper Bypass Location] in the "Paper Input Location:" list. Then in the "Paper Type:" list, select a proper paper type. |
The printed image is faded over the entire page. |
The paper is damp. |
Use paper that has been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity conditions. For details about the paper storage conditions we recommend, see "Paper Storage", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |
The printed image is faded over the entire page. |
The paper is unsuitable. |
Use recommended paper. Printing on coarse or treated paper might result in faint print image. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper Sizes and Types", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |
The printed image is faded over the entire page. |
If [On] is selected in the "Economy Color:" list in the printer driver settings, the entire page will be faded when printed. |
Only when using PostScript 3 On the printer driver's [Detailed Settings] tab, click [Print Quality] in "Menu:", and then select [Off] in the "Economy Color:" list. |
Printed images contain blots or are patchy. |
|
Use recommended paper. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |
Printed images contain blots or are patchy. |
The ink may be dry or the nozzles of the print-heads may be clogged, preventing effective discharge. |
If the machine has been left unused for a long time, print the nozzle check pattern to check whether a nozzle is misfiring, and then perform head cleaning, if necessary. For details about maintaining the machine, see Adjusting the Print Quality. |

Ink on printed surfaces is not dry. |
|
Printed images contain blots or are patchy. |
|
Set Prevent Paper Abrasion mode. For details about Prevent Paper Abrasion mode, see Checking Whether the Print-heads Scratch the Paper. |
Printed image blurs or double lines appear. |
The print-heads are misaligned. |
Adjust the head positions. If they are still misaligned, print the nozzle check pattern to check whether a nozzle is misfiring, and then perform head cleaning, if necessary. For details about maintaining the machine, see Adjusting the Print Quality. |
Printed image is too dark or too light. |
The expiration date of the print cartridge has passed. |
Open the print cartridge and use it before the expiration date. |
Printed image is dirty or bleeds. |
Depending on the type of paper, images to be printed, or the print quality, the print-head may scratch the paper, causing the ink to smear. |
Use recommended paper. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |
Printed image is dirty or bleeds. |
Use of non-recommended cartridges and cartridge refill ink can result in loss of print quality and other problems. |
Use manufacturer-genuine cartridges. Contact your service representative. |

An incorrect printer language might have been selected. |
Select the correct printer driver, and then print the file again. |
Images are cut off, or margins are printed. |
You may be using paper smaller than the size selected in the application. |
Use the same size paper as that selected in the application. If you cannot load paper of the correct size, use the reduction function to reduce the image, and then print. For details about reduction function, see the printer driver Help. |
Photo images are coarse. |
Some applications print at lower resolution. |
Use the application's settings or printer driver's settings to specify a higher resolution. For details about printer driver's settings, see the printer driver Help. |
A solid line is printed as a dashed line or appears blurred. |
A solid line might be printed as a dashed line or appear blurred, depending on the color density of the line. This problem usually occurs when [Print Quality:Standard] is set to [Speed Priority] or [Speed Priority (Drawing)] in [Printer Features] and a light color line is printed. |

|
Misfeeds occur frequently. |
Printed paper is being used. |
If the paper is curled, load it upside down so that the curled edges face downward. |
Misfeeds occur frequently. |
Misfeeds in Paper Input Location 2 might occur if a weight of 120 g/m2 or more and a width of more than 841 mm are applied for Coated Paper and Film (Matte). |
If misfeeds occur in Paper Input Location 2, use Paper Input Location 1. |
Copy paper becomes creased. |
The paper is damp. |
Use paper that has been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity conditions. For details about the paper storage conditions we recommend, see "Paper Storage", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |
Copy paper becomes creased. |
The paper is damp. |
Replace the paper with new paper. Cut 1,000 mm (40 inches) from the paper before printing again. |
Copy paper becomes creased. |
The paper is too thin. |
Use recommended paper. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper Sizes and Types", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper. |

It takes a long time to complete a print job. |
Photographs and other data- intensive pages take a long time for the machine to process. Wait until printing is complete. |
If the Data In indicator is blinking, data has been received by the printer. Wait for a moment. Changing the following settings with the printer driver may help speed up printing: Only when using PostScript 3 Specify a lower resolution on the printer driver. For details about how to change the resolution setting, see the printer driver Help. |
When printing is performed using the USB device server, a print job cannot be completed properly. |
Even if the USB device server has received the data successfully, the machine cannot complete the print job properly because the timeout period set on the machine is too short. |
Specify a longer period for [I/O Timeout] in [Host Interface] under [Printer Features]. For details about I/O Timeout, see "Host Interface", Print. |
Images are printed in the wrong orientation. |
The feed orientation you selected and the feed orientation selected in the printer driver's option setup might be different. |
Make sure the machine's feed orientation and the printer driver's feed orientation match. For details about printer driver settings, see the printer driver Help. |
Image position differs from the display. |
The print-heads are misaligned. |
Adjust the head positions. If they are still misaligned, print the nozzle check pattern to check whether a nozzle is misfiring, and then perform head cleaning, if necessary. For details about maintaining the machine, see Adjusting the Print Quality. |
Image position differs from the display. |
