Attaching the Paper Feed Unit

You can install a 550-sheet paper feed unit.

CAUTION

  • The printer weighs approximately 57 kg (125.7 lb.). When moving the printer, hold the handles located on both sides, and then lift it slowly. Lifting it carelessly or dropping it may cause an injury.

  • The tip-resistant caster table is required if the printer is to be used while placed on the floor with the optional paper feed unit installed. Not using the tip-resistant caster table risks injury to users and damage to the printer resulting from toppling. The tip-resistant caster table can only be installed by a service representative. Contact your service representative for details.

Important

  • Do not place the printer directly on the floor.

  • When attaching multiple options, attach the paper feed unit first.

  • To attach two or three paper feed units at the same time, first stack them one upon the other, and then attach them as a single unit.

1Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.

2Remove the packaging from the paper feed unit.

3Lift the printer with four people using the inset grips on both sides of the printer.

When moving the printer, do not hold the following parts. Doing so may cause them to break.

  • The handle on the standard paper feed tray

  • The underside of the bypass tray

  • The underside of the box containing the controller board (on the back of the printer).

4There are three upright pins on the optional paper feed unit. Align them with the holes on the underside of the printer, and then carefully lower the printer.

When installing two or three units, first connect the units to each other (using the same procedure as described above), and then connect them as a single unit to the printer.

5Plug in the power cord, and then turn on the printer.

6Print the configuration page to confirm that the unit was attached correctly.

Note

  • To check whether the optional paper feed unit was correctly attached, print the configuration page, and check "Attached Equipment" on the configuration page. If the unit was attached correctly, "Tray 2", "Tray 3", and "Tray 4" will appear.

  • For information about printing the configuration page, see Test Printing.

  • If the optional paper feed unit was not installed properly, repeat the procedure from the beginning. If it cannot be installed correctly even after trying the installation a second time, contact your sales or service representative.

  • To use the paper feed unit, configure the printer options in "Accessories" in the printer driver. For details about opening "Accessories", see "Configuring Option Settings for the Printer", Driver Installation Guide.
