Using Direct Printing

You can print documents directly from a client computer using commands such as lpr, ftp, and rsh.

Example (when using the "rsh" command):

% rsh hostname print < tiff-filename

Example (when using the "rsh" command and specifying the print options):

% rsh hostname print filetype=RGL,copies=3,center < filename

About how to use the print commands, see Connecting the Machine/ System Settings for details.

Important

  • Before you transmit print data, check the [Printer Language] setting in User Tools of this machine.

About the Printer Language

When [Printer Language] under [Printer Features] is set to [Auto], the printer automatically selects the Printer Language according to the print data.

When [Printer Language] is set to a setting other than [Auto], an error occurs if the print data and the [Printer Language] setting does not match. In order to print the data correctly, use the machine's control panel or the Printer Language Switch Commands to specify the correct [Printer Language] setting.

For details about how to change the [Printer Language] setting using the control panel, see Specifying a Printer Language.

For details about the Printer Language Switch Command, see Printer Language Switch Command (RP-GL/2) or Printer Language Switch Command (RTIFF).

About the Print Settings

You can configure the print settings using the control panel of this machine or the Printing Option Specification Commands.

In order to configure the print settings on the control panel, open the User Tools screen, and select the [RPGL Menu] or [RTIFF Menu] tab under [Printer Features]. For details about the print settings, see Configuring the RPGL Menu or Configuring the RTIFF Menu. For details about the Printing Option Specification Command, see Printing Option Specification Command (RP-GL/2) or Printing Option Specification Command (RTIFF).
