When "P" Is Displayed

This indicates an original misfeed has occurred in the ADF.

Important

  • This indicator will only be displayed when the machine is equipped with the ADF.

1Open the ADF cover.

2Pull out the misfed original carefully.

3If you are unable to remove the misfed original in Step 2, close the ADF cover, and then lift the ADF.

4Pull the lever in the upper left corner, and then remove the misfed original.

5Lower the ADF.

Preventing original misfeeds

Use the exposure glass for the following kinds of originals.

  • Heavier than 128 g/m2 (34 lb.)

  • Lighter than 52 g/m2 (14 lb.)

  • Smaller than 148 × 210 mm (5.9 × 8.3 inches)

  • Larger than 297 × 864 mm (11.6 × 34.0 inches)

  • Stapled or clipped

  • Perforated or torn

  • Curled, folded, or creased

  • Coated, such as thermal fax paper, art paper, aluminum foil, carbon paper, or conductive paper

  • Bound, such as a book

  • Damaged

  • With glue on them

  • Pasted

  • Written in pencil

  • Thin and flimsy

  • With index tabs

  • Transparent, such as OHP transparencies or translucent paper

Note

  • You cannot place originals of different sizes together.

  • Remove staples or clips from originals, and then fan the originals lightly.

  • Do not stack originals above the limit mark.
