Panel Tone

This section describes the different types of beep patterns.

Beep pattern

Meaning

Cause

Single short beep.

Panel/screen input accepted.

A key on the control or display panels was pressed.

Short, then long beep.

Panel/screen input rejected.

An invalid key was pressed key on the control or display panels, or the entered password was incorrect.

Two long beeps.

Machine is ready for use.

The machine has fully warmed up or has revived from Energy Saver mode and is ready for use.

Five long beeps.

Soft alert.

The initial screen returns when the machine goes into Energy Saver mode.

Five long beeps repeated four times.

Soft alert.

A paper tray is empty.

Five short beeps repeated five times.

Strong alert.

The machine requires user attention because paper has jammed, the toner needs replenishing, or other problems have occurred.
