Reducing Copying Time Using Two MFPs
Connect Copy allows you to connect two machines together via the Copy Connector (Connect Copy). When you set up a copy job on one machine (the main machine), data is transferred to the other (the sub-machine) so that copies can be made on both simultaneously.
This function can be used only for the Classic mode.
Overview of Connect Copy
The main machine is the one on which you press [Connect Copy] to make Connect Copy settings. The other machine becomes the sub-machine. You cannot change the main machine and sub-machine relationship until Connect Copy is canceled.
After the original is scanned, the data is stored on the hard disk of the main machine. As soon as the main machine starts copying, the data is transferred to the hard disk of the sub-machine, and the submachine then starts copying.

For details about the required optional unit to use this function, see the following section:
Functions Requiring Optional Configurations
Machine types and options
The machines do not need to be the same type. However, to use functions such as the Staple, Punch, or Fold function, the finisher or Multi-Folding unit with those functions must be installed on both machines. Printouts may differ if the main machine and sub-machine have different finishers installed.
Do not use the connecting cable with other equipment.
Always turn off the main power of the main and sub-machines when before disconnecting the cable. Otherwise it might lead to malfunctioning of the two machines.
Even if the sub-machine is in Low Power mode, the main machine can still connect to make copies.
In Connect Copy, both machines follow the user authentication settings of the main machine.
You cannot manage the number of copies according to machine. The number of copies is shown as a total of the two machines, and is monitored on the main machine.
Even if user codes are specified and you enter a user code before using the sub-machine, you cannot manage the number of copies made on the sub-machine.
If user codes are specified on only the sub-machine, you need not enter a user code in order to use the sub-machine for Connect Copy. In this case, you cannot manage the number of copies according to user.
In Connect Copy mode, the sub-machine will not turn off automatically.
Connecting Two Machines to Make Copies
Use the main machine to perform this function.
Before starting Connect Copy, check the settings of the main machine and sub-machine. For details, see the following section:
Press [Copier (Classic)] icon on the Home screen.

Press [Connect Copy] on the machine that you want to use as the main.
[Connect Copy] becomes highlighted, and the two machines are connected.
Place the originals on the main machine.
Make desired settings using the main machine.
Enter the number of copies with the number keys.
The maximum copy quantity that can be entered is 9999.
Press [Start] on the main machine.
Copying starts if the main machine is not in use. The sub-machine starts copying after data transfer from the main machine is completed. However, if the sub-machine is being used for a different job, the next job starts when the ongoing job is complete.
When the copy job is finished, press [Reset] to clear the settings.
The connect copy function is not available from the simple screen or when a job has been paused using the Interrupt Copy function.
When [Connect Copy] is pressed, only the paper trays common to both machines will be displayed. The other paper trays cannot be selected. Select the paper tray using the main machine.
Since the sub-machine starts copying after receiving data from the main machine, the numbers of copy sets differ on the main and sub machines. The difference between the number of copies made by the main machine and the number made by the sub-machine will increase in proportion to the quantity of data being transferred.
Both machines may not finish copying at the same time.
When the number of originals or copies is small, copying will be done on only the main machine.
To stop the machine during a multi-copy run, press [Stop] on the main machine.
If [Reset] is pressed on the main machine while you are making settings, Connect Copy will be canceled.
For details about the keys that appear on the Connect Copy screen, see the following section:
The login screen is displayed when the user authentication setting is specified. You need to log in to use the machine. After logging in the machine, be sure to log out of it to prevent unauthorized usage.
If you have made any copy settings before using Connect Copy, the settings remain effective. However, if the finisher or Multi-Folding unit is not installed on either one of the two, functions such as the Staple or Fold function are automatically disabled.
When using the Sort or Staple function, copying is divided between the two machines by the number of sets. If a paper misfeed occurs when processing a set of copies, it is not possible for the other machine to take over the remainder of that particular set.
When using the Sort or Staple function, the processing of one copy set cannot be divided between the two machines.
When using the Stack function, a copy job is divided between the main machine and its submachine. Copies printed in the main machine are delivered face down, and copies printed in the sub-machine are delivered face up. To make copies in order, turn the main machine's printouts over, and then stack them above the printouts of the sub-machine.
You can use the Interrupt Copy function on the sub-machine, but not on the main machine.
When an Interrupt Copy job on the sub-machine has finished, press [Interrupt].
If the Auto Reset time of the sub-machine lapses when it is processing an Interrupt Copy job, the sub-machine will return to its initial condition and the Interrupt Copy job will be canceled.
When the memory to store originals exceeds the maximum, an error message appears.
You can store on a program whether or not to use Connect Copy.
To specify whether or not to display [Connect Copy], specify [Connect Copy Key Display] in Settings.
Exiting Connect Copy
Press [Connect Copy] on the main machine.

Settings made on the main machine during Connect Copy mode remain effective.
Using Job Preset in Connect Copy
If you start a Connect Copy job when the main machine is copying, the main machine automatically connects with the sub-machine after finishing the current job, and then starts the new job. You can preset a maximum of ten jobs.
On the main machine, press [New Job] when “Copying...” appears.

Confirm that “Ready” is displayed, and then press [Connect Copy].
Confirm that “Ready” is displayed, and then make settings for the job.

Place the originals, and then press [Start] on the main machine.
Scanning begins. As soon as the current job is finished, the next job starts automatically.
Connect Copy jobs are displayed on the Job List of the sub-machine. However, they cannot be deleted from the sub-machine.
Preset jobs in Connect Copy mode can only be changed when the main machine has finished scanning the originals.
Preset jobs in Connect Copy mode can only be changed when copying has yet to begin on either machine.
If both the main machine and its sub-machines are performing print jobs, they start print jobs that are registered when their ongoing jobs are complete. If a sub-machine is performing a print job that requires copying or printing of a large number of pages, the registered print jobs are allocated to the main machine only.
Printing Stored Documents Using Connect Print
You can print a document stored in the Document Server using the Connect Print function.
Operate the machine in which the document you want to print is stored.
Press [Document Server (Classic)] icon on the Home screen of the main machine.
Select a folder.
Select a document to be printed.
When printing two or more documents at a time, repeat Step 3.
When specifying printing conditions, press [To Printing Screen], and then configure print settings.
Press [Connect Print].
The key is highlighted and the two machines are connected.
Enter the number of copies with the number keys.
The maximum quantity that can be entered is 9999.
Press [Start] on the main machine.
The main machine begins printing using data stored in the Document Server.
Printing on the sub-machine starts after the data is transferred from the main machine.
The number of print sets might differ on the main and sub machines.
Both machines may not finish printing at the same time.
Pressing [Back to File List] restores the document selection screen.
For details about the Document Server, see the following section:
Connect Copy Settings
Tray Paper Settings
In Connect Copy mode, both the main and sub machines must feed paper that is the same size, type, and orientation. To get the best results, the paper settings should be the same on both machines.
When two or more trays hold the desired paper size, the paper tray will be selected according to the [Paper Tray Priority: Copier] settings made on the respective machine.
If the sub-machine has a paper tray containing paper of the same size but set in a different orientation, when the current tray runs out of paper, the sub-machine automatically switches to the tray containing paper of the same size and rotates the print images in order to make copies (When [Auto Tray Switching] is set to [With Image Rotation]).
Default Settings
In Connect Copy mode, the main machine's default [Copier / Document Server Settings] is applied to the sub-machine.
However, the [Auto Tray Switching] and [Connect Copy Key Display] settings are applied to each machine separately.
If you configure the buzzer volume settings under [Sound] in [Screen Features] to set the buzzer sounding for [Operation Completed], only the main machine's buzzer sounds when a copy job is complete.
