Connecting the Modular Cable

To use the Fax function, connect the machine to a telephone line with a modular cable. You can use the machine as a telephone when a handset or an external telephone is connected.

Connecting the Machine to a Telephone Line

Important

  • Connect the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to Line. Connecting lines other than PSTN to this machine may cause it to malfunction.

  1. LINE2, LINE3: Extra G3 interface unit connector

    Connect the line for fax use.

  2. LINE1: G3 interface unit connector

    Connect the line for fax use.

  3. TEL: External telephone connector

    Connect a handset or an external telephone set.

Note

  • When connecting a modular cable to "LINE 1, 2 and 3", make a loop as shown in the illustration at a point 3 cm (1) from the end of the modular cable on the connection side of the machine, and attach the included ferrite core to the loop.

  • If your telephone line uses optional services from the telephone company (call waiting, for example), you may not be able to use the line for the fax function.

Selecting the Line Type

Select the line type to which the machine is connected. There are two types: tone and pulse dial.

Select the line type using Administrator Tools.

Note

  • This function is not available in some regions.

Connecting the Optional Handset or an External Telephone RegionB icon (mainly North America)

You can connect the optional handset or an external telephone to the machine.

You can use it for telephone calls.

Important

  • When you use the optional handset or an external telephone with the [On Hook Dial] key for telephone calls, you cannot talk with the other party without pressing the [On Hook Dial] key after talking off the receiver.

The switch on the handset should be in the appropriate position-TT (Tone Dialing) or DP (Pulse Dialing).

Adjust the handset ringer volume using the volume switch.

Note

  • Some external telephones may not be connected or may suffer reduced functionality.
