Basic Transmission Procedure

This section describes the basic procedures for transmitting documents with the fax function.

Important

  • It is recommended that you call the receivers and confirm with them when sending important documents.

When sending originals using the ADF

1Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

2Press the [Fax] icon.

3Place the original into the ADF.

For details about how to place originals to send using the fax function, see Placing Originals to Send.

4Press [Settings] to specify detailed scanning and send settings such as scan size and resolution as necessary.

5Press [].

6Specify a destination.

Press a destination key to select a destination registered in the Address Book, or press [+] to select the method for specifying the destination.

For details about how to specify the destination, see Specifying a Destination.

7When sending the same original to several destinations (broadcasting), specify the next destination.

You can check or change the specified destinations by pressing (Confirm Destination(s)). For details, see Checking or Changing the Specified Destinations.

8Press [Start].

The machine starts scanning originals and dialing.

When sending originals using the exposure glass

1Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

2Press the [Fax] icon.

3Place the first page of the original face down on the exposure glass.

For details about how to place originals to send using the fax function, see Placing Originals to Send.

4Press [Settings] to specify detailed scan and send settings such as scan size and resolution as necessary.

5Press [].

6Specify a destination.

Press a destination key to select a destination registered in the Address Book, or press [+] to select the method for specifying the destination.

For details about how to specify the destination, see Specifying a Destination.

7When sending the same original to several destinations (broadcasting), specify the next destination.

You can check or change the specified destinations by pressing (Confirm Destination(s)). For details, see Checking or Changing the Specified Destinations.

8Press [Start].

The machine starts scanning the original.

9Place the next original on the exposure glass within 60 seconds when you send multiple originals, and then press [Start].

Repeat this step for each page.

10After scanning all originals, press [Finish Scn].

The machine starts dialing.

Note

  • If memory is full (0% is displayed for "Remaining Memory" in [Remaining Memory Information]) or almost full, you cannot transmit documents.

  • If memory becomes full during scanning, all scanned pages are discarded.

  • If a document jam occurs during scanning, transmission is canceled.

  • For the maximum values of the following items, see Maximum Values:

    • Number of documents you can store in memory for Memory Transmission

    • Number of pages you can store in memory (using A4 Standard <ITU-T Hash1 Chart>)

    • Number of destinations you can specify per file

    • Number of destinations you can specify for all files (including files in memory)

  • When scanning an original with a large number of pages, there may be a long pause between each page depending on the nature of the original or the machine settings.

  • You can change the period of time the machines waits for the next original when sending a fax using the exposure glass. For details, see Scan Settings.
