What are Printing Options?

Text strings appended to print commands when printing data on a network printer from a UNIX workstation or a computer are referred to as "printing options" in this manual.

Using printing options, you can specify the RTIFF Menu settings. The settings specified by printing options take priority over the RTIFF Menu settings specified on the control panel of the machine. However, the settings specified in printing options are valid only temporarily, and those settings are cleared and reset to those configured on the control panel, as soon as the output made by the print command is complete.

Note

  • You can specify printing options with the print command only when TCP/IP is used as the network protocol. In order to specify printing options when you are using the machine via parallel connection, embed the printing options in the input data. For details about printing option specification commands, see Printing Option Specification Command (RTIFF).

  • When specifying certain printing options, the settings of the RTIFF Menu configured on the control panel of the machine may be applied in addition to the setting specified in the printing option.
