Printing with Parallel Connection

This section describes how to install the PCL printer drivers when using the parallel port.

To use a printer connected using a parallel interface, click [LPT1] when installing the printer driver.

Important

  • Manage Printers permission is required to install the drivers. Log on as an Administrators group member.

  • You can install the printer driver from the CD-ROM provided with this machine or download it from the manufacturer's Web site.

Installing the PCL printer driver:

1Quit all applications currently running.

2Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

The installer starts.

3Select an interface language, and then click [OK].

4Click [PCL Printer Driver].

The software license agreement appears in the [License Agreement] dialog box.

5After reading the agreement, click [I accept the agreement.], and then click [Next >].

6Select the printer driver you want to use in the [Select Program] dialog box.

You can select several printer drivers.

The PCL 6 printer driver is installed in the language specified by your operating system.

7Click [Next >].

8Select the [Printer Name] check box to select the machine model you want to use.

The machine name can be changed in the [Change settings for 'Printer Name'] box.

9Double-click the machine name to display the printer settings.

The details shown in [Comment], [Driver], and [Port] vary depending on the operating system, machine model, and port.

10Check that [LPT1:] is shown in [Port].

11Select the [Default Printer] check box to configure the printer as default.

12Click [Continue].

The printer driver installation starts.

13Click [Finish].

14Select to restart the computer either now or later, and then click [Finish].

Restart the computer to complete installation.

Note

  • A user code can be set after the printer driver installation. For information about user code, see the printer driver Help.

  • To stop installation of the selected software, click [Cancel] before installation is complete.

  • Auto Run may not work with certain operating system settings. In that case, launch "Setup.exe" on the CD-ROM root directory.

  • A message appears if there is a newer version of the printer driver already installed. If there is, you cannot install the printer driver using Auto Run. If you still want to install the printer driver, use [Add Printer]. See "Messages Displayed When Installing the Printer Driver", Troubleshooting.
