Using the Virtual Printer
The virtual printer is a pseudo printer that can only be recognized on a network. The virtual printer has various print options, such as feeding tray selection and 2 sided printing, which you can set in advance. You can also use the interrupt printing function. This function suspends the jobs that are being processed or waiting to be printed, and gives priority to a new job. If you use the virtual printer under UNIX, Solaris, and other operating systems, various print functions are possible without you having to manually enter the usual print commands.
Start a Web browser.
Enter "http://(machine's IP address or host name) /" in the address bar to access the printer whose settings you want to change.
Top Page of Web Image Monitor appears.Click [Login].
The dialog box for entering the user name and password appears.Enter the user name and password, and then click [Login].
Contact your administrator for information about the settings.
Depending on the configuration of your Web browser, the login user name and password might be saved. If you do not want to save them, configure your Web browser's settings so that this information is not saved.Click [Configuration] on the [Device Management] menu.
Under "Printer", click [Virtual Printer Settings].
Click [Add].
In "Virtual Printer Name", enter a name for the new printer, and then select the protocol in the "Protocol" list.
The following Virtual Printer protocols are available: [TCP/IP (Unspecified, Normal)], [TCP/IP (Unspecified, Priority)], [TCP/IP (RHPP)], [TCP/IP (DIPRINT)].
If you select [TCP/IP (DIPRINT)] in the "Protocol" list, you cannot specify a virtual printer name.Click [OK].
Click [Logout].
Quit Web Image Monitor.
You can specify a virtual printer name using up to 48 characters.
You can add up to 50 virtual printers.
Enabling the Virtual Printer
Log in to Web Image Monitor in administrator mode.
Click [Configuration] on the [Device Management] menu.
Under "Printer", click [Basic Settings].
In "Virtual Printer", select [Active], and then click [OK].
Click [Logout].
Quit Web Image Monitor.
Deleting a Virtual Printer
Log in to Web Image Monitor in administrator mode.
Click [Configuration] on the [Device Management] menu.
Under "Printer", click [Virtual Printer Settings].
Select the virtual printer that you want to delete, and then click [Delete].
Click [OK].
Click [Logout].
Quit Web Image Monitor.
You cannot delete the default virtual printer.
Start a Web browser.
Enter "http://(machine's IP address or host name) /" in the address bar to access the printer whose settings you want to change.

If you want to configure this virtual printer for an interrupt printer, select [TCP/IP (Unspecified, Priority)] in the "Protocol" list.Click [Logout].
Quit Web Image Monitor.

Confirming a Virtual Printer Configuration
To print using virtual printer, a Virtual Printer Name must be specified. Use the following procedure to confirm a Virtual Printer Name and its configuration.
Start a Web browser.
Enter "http://(machine's IP address or host name) /" in the address bar to access the printer whose settings you want to change.
Top Page of Web Image Monitor appears.Click [Configuration] on the [Device Management] menu.
Under "Printer", click [Virtual Printer Settings].
Select the virtual printer whose configuration details you want to confirm, and then click [Details].
[Details] is not displayed if you log in to Web Image Monitor as an administrator. To confirm the current virtual printer configuration, click [Change].
If the virtual printers function is set to [Inactive] in "Virtual Printer", the list of available virtual printers is not displayed. Set the virtual printers function to [Active]. To set the virtual printers function to [Active], you must logon as an administrator. For details, see Adding a Virtual Printer.
To print directly from a specified virtual printer, assign the virtual printer in the print command. If you use the interrupt printing function, enter the name of the virtual printer that you configured for interrupt printing. Before printing for the first time, specify the virtual printer you want to use.
The following are examples of commands that directly print a PDF file:
