Throughput Reduced When Printing Jobs with Mixed Paper Type or Thickness, or After Changing Paper Type or Thickness

When Printing Jobs with Mixed Paper Type or Thickness

When jobs with mixed paper type or thickness are performed, the temperature is adjusted in order to depressurize the fusing nip to reach the specified fusing temperature, resulting in reduced throughput due to longer waiting time.

The waiting time before reaching the fusing temperature at which paper feeding is allowed depends on the paper type and thickness, as well as the operating environment of the machine.

You can improve throughput by switching to Productivity mode.

In Productivity mode, the temperature adjustment is not executed even when the paper type or thickness is changed, thereby reducing the waiting time. However, the fusing temperature will not match the paper, which may cause problems such as uneven density, toner peeling, blister-like white spots, glossy ghosting, glossy rippling, and paper jams to the fusing belt.

1If the paper is not registered as custom paper, register the brand of the paper.

2In [Detailed settings] for custom paper, set 1234: [Print Mode When Switching Paper Type] to [Productivity Priority].

3In [Detailed settings] for custom paper, increase the value for 1235: [Fusing Temperature Range] by +3.

You can increase the value up to +9. Be sure not to exceed this value.

When Switching to a Different Paper Type or Thickness

Since toner adhesion control is performed for each paper, throughput is reduced when switching to a paper type with a different amount of toner adhesion.

The waiting time required for printing operation by switching the imaging current is always approximately 3 seconds.

You can eliminate the waiting time by disabling the toner adhesion control for different paper types, thus not changing the toner adhesion even if the paper type or thickness is changed. However, the toner density may change slightly compared to the appropriate setting because the amount of toner adhesion does not match the paper.

1Replace any parts around the photoconductor that have exceeded their PM life.
