Types of Fax Transmissions

The fax function allows you to send documents in the following five ways:

  • Fax

Specify a fax number to send faxes via a telephone network.

  • IP-Fax

The IP-Fax function sends or receives documents between two fax machines directly via a TCP/IP network.

Specify the IP address or host name of the other party's fax machine as an IP-Fax destination.

For details about the function, see Overview of IP-Fax Function.

  • Internet Fax

The Internet Fax function converts scanned documents to TIFF files and sends them as e-mail attachments to fax machines that can receive Internet Faxes. If the other party's machine supports T.37 full mode, bi-directional exchange of data such as available paper size and resolution is possible.

Specify the e-mail address of the other party's fax machine as an Internet Fax destination.

For details about the function, see Overview of Internet Fax Function.

  • E-mail

The machine converts scanned documents to TIFF, PDF, or PDF/A files and sends them as e-mail attachments to e-mail addresses. You can view fax documents on a computer.

To send a fax, specify an e-mail address.

For details about the function, see Overview of E-Mail Transmission Function.

  • Folder

The machine converts scanned documents to TIFF, PDF, or PDF/A files and sends them via a network to a folder directly. You can view fax documents on a computer.

Specify the path to a folder on a network.

For details about the function, see Overview of Folder Transmission Function.

  • Cloud Fax

The machine sends and receives faxes via a cloud fax service provided by an Internet fax service provider.

Sending faxes to cloud fax destinations is possible when the Fax Application, LAN-Fax, Quick Fax and Web Image Monitor are used. (Web Image Monitor is a management tool installed on this machine to monitor this machine or configure settings for this machine by using a web browser.) When using Quick Fax, you can specify a Cloud Fax destination by selecting it from the Address Book. When using Web Image Monitor, you can send stored documents via a cloud fax service.

Note

  • You can also send and receive faxes via a cloud fax service provided by an Internet fax service provider. Sending faxes to cloud fax destinations is available when using the Fax Application, LAN-Fax, Quick Fax and Web Image Monitor. When using Web Image Monitor, you can only send stored documents via a cloud fax service.
