User GuideP 501/502

Registering and Changing Administrators

If administrator authentication is specified, we recommend only one person take each administrator role.

Sharing administrator tasks facilitates each administrator's tasks while also preventing unauthorized administrator operations. You can register up to 4 login user names (Administrators 1-4) to which you can grant administrator privileges.

An administrator's privileges can only be changed by an administrator with the relevant privileges.

Be sure to assign all administrator privileges so that each administrator privilege is associated with at least one administrator.

For details about logging in and logging out with administrator authentication, see Administrator Login Method and Administrator Logout Method.

You can specify administrator privileges using a web browser from networked computers. (We use Web Image Monitor installed on this machine.)

1Open a web browser from a networked computer, and then log in to Web Image Monitor as the administrator.

For details about logging in to Web Image Monitor as an administrator, see Administrator Login Method.

2Point to [Device Management], and then click [Configuration].

3Click [Program/Change Administrator] under "Device Settings".

4Select [Administrator 1], [Administrator 2], [Administrator 3] or [Administrator 4] for each administrator type.

When allocating administrators' privileges to one person each, select one administrator under each category. For example, select [Administrator 1] for the user administrator and [Administrator 2] for the machine administrator.

To combine multiple administrator privileges, assign multiple administrator privileges to a single administrator. For example, to assign machine administrator privileges and user administrator privileges to [Administrator 1], select [Administrator 1] for the machine administrator and the user administrator.

5Enter the [Login User Name] of the selected administrator number.

6Click [Change] for "Login Password".

7Enter the login password in [New Password].

Follow the password policy to strengthen the login password.

For details about the password policy and how to specify it, see Specifying the Extended Security Functions.

8Re-enter the login password in [Confirm Password], and then click [OK].

9Click [Change] for "Encryption Password".

10Enter the encryption password in [New Password].

11Re-enter the encryption password in [Confirm Password], and then click [OK].

12Click [OK].

13Log out.

For details about logging out, see Administrator Logout Method.
