General Features

This section describes the user tools in the General Features menu under System Settings.

Program / Change / Delete User Text

You can register text phrases you often use when specifying settings, such as ".com" and "Regards".

You can register up to 40 entries.

  • Program / Change

    1. Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

    2. Flick the screen to the left, and then press the [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) icon.

    3. Press [Machine Features].

    4. Press [System Settings].

    5. Check that [General Features] is selected.

    6. Press [Program / Change / Delete User Text].

    7. Check that [Program / Change] is selected.

    8. Select the user text you want to change.

      To program a new user text, press [*Not Programmed].

    9. Enter the user text, and then press [OK].

      Enter the user text up to 80 characters.

    10. Press [Exit].

    11. Press [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) on the top right of the screen.

    12. Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

  • Delete

    1. Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

    2. Flick the screen to the left, and then press the [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) icon.

    3. Press [Machine Features].

    4. Press [System Settings].

    5. Check that [General Features] is selected.

    6. Press [Program / Change / Delete User Text].

    7. Press [Delete].

    8. Select the user text you want to delete.

    9. Press [Yes].

    10. Press [Exit].

    11. Press [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) on the top right of the screen.

    12. Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

Copy Count Display (copier/Document Server)

The copy counter can be set to show the number of copies made (count up) or the number of copies yet to be made (count down).

Default: [Up]

Screen Color Setting

You can change the screen color.

Default: [Blue-gray]

This setting is applied to the classic application screens.

Interleave Priority

Interleave Priority is given to the mode selected.

Default: [Display Mode]

Function Reset Timer

You can set the length of time the machine waits before changing modes when using the multi-access function.

This is useful if you make many copies and have to change settings for each copy. If you set a longer reset period, you can prevent interruption from other functions.

Default: [Set Time], [3 second(s)]

When you select [Set Time], enter the time (3-30 seconds, in steps of 1 second) using the number keys.

The Function Reset Timer setting is ignored if [Switch Every Specified No.] or [Job Order] is set for Interleave Priority.

Output: Copier (copier)

Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.

Default: [Internal Tray 1]

Output: Document Server (Document Server)

Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.

Default: [Internal Tray 1]

Output: Fax (facsimile)

Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.

Default: [Internal Tray 1]

Output: Printer (printer)

Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.

Default: [Internal Tray 1]

Key Repeat

You can enable or disable repetition of an operation if a key on the screen or control panel is pressed continuously.

Default: [Normal]

The key repeat function is available only on the classic application screens.

System Status/Job List Display Time

Specify how long to display the System Status and Job List display for.

Default: [On], [15 second(s)]

When the setting is [On], you can specify a display time between 10 and 999 seconds in steps of 1 second using the number keys.

ADF Original Table Elevation (models equipped with the one-pass duplex scanning ADF)

Set when to raise the ADF plate after placing originals on the Auto Document Feeder (ADF).

Default: [When Original is Set]

If you select [When Original is Set], the ADF plate is raised immediately after placing originals on the Auto Document Feeder (ADF). The first page with [When Original is Set] mode is output faster than the one with [When Start Key Pressed] mode.

If you select [When Start Key Pressed], the ADF plate is raised after pressing [Start].

Select this setting if you use originals such as those with multiple pages or thin sheets and they need to be placed and aligned on the ADF.

External Keyboard

You can specify the layout for an external keyboard which is connected to the USB Host Interface port.

Default: [Off]

Compatible ID

You can enable or disable the Compatible ID setting.

If this setting is set to [Active], you can install the printer driver automatically by connecting a computer to the machine via USB or network.

Default: [Active]

Program/Change USB Device List

You can register "Product ID" and "Vendor ID" information for a USB keyboard or IC card reader device to the device list to limit the usage of USB devices. The "Product ID" and "Vendor ID" information for a USB device have been assigned by the manufacturer to identify the individual device. "Product ID" input settings are between 0 and 0xFFFF. "Vendor ID" input settings are between 0x0001 and 0xFFFE. Up to ten pairs of "Product ID" and "Vendor ID" information can be registered.

Erase Margin for Stapleless Stapler (When Finisher SR3180 or Finisher SR3210 is installed)

Default: [Off]

The staple may come off easily if the stapleless stapler is applied to an image printed in a stapling position.

To prevent this, you can specify a binding margin to adjust the image position with [Margin Adj.].

Enable this function only when erasing the image around the position to be stapled is acceptable.

Stapling Method for Stapleless Stapler (When Finisher SR3180 or Finisher SR3210 is installed)

Select either [Single] or [Double] as the stapling method for the stapleless stapler. The Single setting is faster, and the Double setting has better retention capability.

Default: [Double]

Human Detection Sensor

Specify whether or not the machine detects a person approaching it. If [Active] is selected and the machine detects a person approaching it while Energy Saver mode is enabled, it enters standby mode automatically and can reduce the time to recover to a normal state.

Default: [Active]

Auto Switch Staple/Stapleless Stapler (When Finisher SR3210 is installed)

Specify whether to use staples or stapleless to fasten documents together when you print six or more sheets of paper. This setting is applied when you select stapleless as the method to fasten documents together from the control panel or printer driver.

If [Off] is selected, every five sheets of paper are stapled without staples. If [On] is selected and there are fewer than 50 pages printed, they are stapled with staples. If there are more than 50 pages printed, they are not stapled.

Default: [Off]

Output Priority When Paper is Fed to Finisher (Type 3, 4, and 5 models only) (mainly Europe)

You can choose whether to give priority to the time to recover from Energy Saver mode or to the print speed when you feed paper to the finisher. If [Print Start Time] is selected, the number of pages printed is less than in the normal state shortly after recovering from Energy Saver mode. However, the time to start printing is reduced.

Default: [Print Start Time]

Output Priority When Paper is Fed to Finisher (Type 3 and 4 models only) (mainly Asia)

You can choose whether to give priority to the time to recover from Energy Saver mode or to the print speed when you feed paper to the finisher. Energy Saving Recvry. for Business Applicatn.

Specify whether or not to enable low-energy recovery from Sleep mode to use applications independent of the machine, such as Address Book Management or Browser.

Default: [Off]

If [On (Energy Saving)] is selected, it takes longer than usual to be ready to use the machine.
