Notes on configuring the fold function

Conditions where fold function will be canceled

Fold function will be canceled when:

  • Paper size or type which is not compatible with the fold function is selected.

  • The machine is made to continue printing manually.

  • [Driver / Command] is selected in [Tray Setting Priority] for the specified source tray.

  • [Auto Continue] is set.

  • A paper type on which Multi-sheet Fold cannot be applied is selected.

  • Multi-sheet Fold is specified but the paper sizes are different.

  • Multi-sheet Fold is specified but the number of sheets exceeds the maximum number available for the fold function.

  • A combination of paper orientation and fold position that cannot be folded is selected.

  • Paper is fed from an optional interposer.

  • Multi-folding unit is not installed.

Functions that will cause job reset to occur when combined with the fold function

  • Slip Sheets*1

  • Separation Sheets*1

  • Staple*2

  • Punch

  • Half Fold configured on the Booklet Finisher

*1 Job reset occurs only when combined with Half Fold, Letter Fold-in, Letter Fold-out, Double Parallel Fold, or Gate Fold.

*2 Job reset occurs only when combined with Half Fold, Letter Fold-in, Letter Fold-out, Double Parallel Fold, or Gate Fold. It can be specified along with Z-fold except when center staple is selected using the Booklet Finisher.

Note

  • If the information icon (Icon illustration) is displayed next to the "Fold:" list, you cannot specify fold function. Click the information icon (Icon illustration) to check why fold function is unavailable.

  • If the information icon (Icon illustration) is displayed next to the "Z-fold:" list, you cannot specify fold function. Click the information icon (Icon illustration) to check why Z-fold function is unavailable.

  • When the fold function is used, Rotating Collate and Face-up function will be canceled.

  • Fewer sheets of paper can be stapled together when the paper is Z-folded. This is because when paper is Z-folded, it becomes thicker so each sheet of paper that is Z-folded is calculated as follows. For details, see "Maintenance and Specifications", About This Machine.

    • When using the Finisher SR4120 or Booklet Finisher SR4130

Each sheet of paper that is Z-folded is calculated as 8 sheets of non-Z-folded paper if the paper weight is between 52 and 80 g/m2, or as 13 sheets of non-Z-folded paper if the paper weight is between 80.1 and 105 g/m2.

    • When using the Finisher SR5070 or Booklet Finisher SR5080

Always calculated as 10 sheets of non-Z-folded paper, regardless of the weight of the paper that is Z-folded.

  • Depending on the temperate and humidity conditions of the machine's environment and the type of paper being folded, use of the fold function can cause toner smearing, which can occasionally result in spoilt prints.

  • Wrinkling can occur when applying Letter Fold-in, Letter Fold-out, Double Parallel Fold, or Gate Fold to B4 JISLandscape, A3Landscape, 81/2 × 14Landscape, 11 × 17Landscape, 12 × 18Landscape, 81/2 × 132/5Landscape, 8KLandscape, or larger sheets. In some cases, you may have to use A4 sheets or smaller when applying folds in combination with the reduction function.

  • Print quality over fold lines might be reduced. This is due to cracking within the fused toner. Loss of surface along fold lines can also occur with some types of paper. To avoid possible wastage, print a single test sheet before beginning a print run.

  • Printing will stop if the number of printed sheets exceeds tray capacity. If this happens, remove printed sheets from the folding unit tray to resume printing.
