Encrypting Data in the Address Book

Important

  • The machine cannot be used during encryption.

  • Using the following functions may take longer or result in a failure if the Address Book data is encrypted. If this is the case, use the Machine Data Encryption function to avoid scanning the Address Book data.

    • Importing/Exporting the Address Book using a utility

    • Authentication using Enhanced Locked Print NX v2/Card Authentication Package v2/Streamline NX

The time it takes to encrypt the data in the Address Book depends on the number of registered users.

Encrypting the data in the Address Book may take longer.

1Log in as the user administrator from the control panel.

2Press [System Settings].

3Press [Administrator Tools].

4Press [Down arrow keyNext].

5Press [Extended Security].

6Press [On] for "Encrypt User Custom Settings & Address Book".

7Press [Change] for "Encryption Key".

8Enter the encryption key, and then press [OK].

Enter the encryption key using up to 32 alphanumeric characters.

9Press [Encrypt / Decrypt].

10Press [Yes].

Do not turn the main power off during encryption, as doing so may corrupt the data.

If you press [Stop] during encryption, the data is not encrypted.

Normally, once encryption is complete, “Encryption / Decryption is successfully complete. Press [Exit].” appears.

11Press [Exit].

12Press [OK].

13Log out.

Note

  • If you register additional users after encrypting the data in the Address Book, their data is also encrypted.

  • The backup copy of the Address Book data stored in the SD card is encrypted. For details about backing up and restoring the Address Book using an SD card, see "Administrator Tools", Connecting the Machine/ System Settings.
