Configuring a Print Server

This section explains how to configure the printer as a Windows network printer. The printer is configured to enable use by network clients.

Important

  • To change printer properties in the [Printers and Faxes], [Printers], or [Devices and Printers] window, log in to the file server as an administrator or member of the PowerUsers group.

1Click [Start] button.

The [Start] menu appears.

For Windows 8/8.1, click [Desktop], and then move the cursor to the lower right of the window panel.

Click [Settings], and then click [Control Panel].

2Click [Devices and Printers].

For Windows XP, click [Printers and Faxes] to display the [Printers and Faxes] window.

For Windows Vista, click [Control Panel], and then click [Hardware and Sound] from [Printer] to display the [Printer] window.

For Windows 8/8.1, click [View devices and printers] under [Hardware and Sound].

3Right-click the icon of the printer you have added, and then click [Printer properties].

The printer properties appear.

For Windows XP, right-click the icon of the printer you have added to select the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File] menu.

For Windows Vista, right-click the icon of the printer you have added, click [Run as administrator], and then click [Properties].

4On the [Sharing] tab, click [Share this printer].

5To share the printer with users of a different version of Windows, click [Additional Drivers...].

If you have installed an alternative driver by selecting [Shared] during the printer driver installation, this step can be ignored.

6Click [OK], and then close the printer properties.
