To set up a wireless LAN manually, specify the transmission mode and SSID (Service Set Identifier) of the wireless access point that the printer will use for network access.
Ask your network administrator for the SSID.
Setting the communication mode
Press the [Menu] key, and then select the setting items using the [ ] or [ ] key.
Select [Host Interface] Press [OK]
Select [Network] Press [OK]
Select [LAN Type] Press [OK]
Select [Wireless LAN] Press [OK] Press [Escape]
Select [Wireless LAN] Press [OK]
Select [Communication Mode] Press [OK]
Select the transmission mode of the wireless LAN Press [OK]
If [802.11 Ad-hoc Mode] is selected for [Communication Mode], select [Ad-hoc Channel] Press [OK]
Select the Ad-hoc channel Press [OK]
Select an Ad-hoc channel according to the IEEE 802.11 standard you are using.
When using IEEE 802.11 b/g:
Channels 1–11
When using IEEE 802.11 a:
Channels 36, 40, 44, and 48
When using IEEE 802.11 n:
Channels 1–11, 36, 40, 44, and 48

Setting the SSID
Press the [Menu] key, and then select the setting items using the [ ] or [ ] key.
Select [Host Interface] Press [OK]
Select [Wireless LAN] Press [OK]
Select [SSID Setting] Press [OK]
[SSID] [Enter] Enter the SSID Press [OK]
You can switch between lower/upper case letters and numeric characters by pressing [ab/AB/12].
The characters that can be used are ASCII 0 × 20-0 × 7e (32 bytes).

Setting the communication mode

Select Wireless LAN as the network interface to be used.

Press [Wireless LAN], and then specify the transmission mode and the channel to be used for transmission.

Cautions when using a wireless LAN
A wireless LAN uses radio waves instead of cables to send and receive data. Because radio waves usually pass through walls and other obstructions, the following problems may arise if you do not configure wireless security settings.
Information leakage
Information such as IDs, passwords, credit card numbers, and e-mail content may be seen by an unauthorized third party.
Unauthorized network access
Damage to or alteration of data and/or system configurations by viruses or other malware.
Impersonation of legitimate network users, resulting in data theft.
Theft of sensitive or confidential data.
To minimize the possibility of these threats, it is recommended that you check the available features of this printer, wireless access points, and other equipment that uses the wireless LAN, and configure security settings for the wireless LAN.
