When You Cannot Make Copies As Wanted

Basic

Problem

Solutions

Printing does not start.

The machine is executing maintenance operations.

The machine may perform periodic maintenance while running if it has been left unused for an extended period of time. Wait until the machine is ready, and then try to print again.

Misfeeds occur frequently.

The paper is damp.

Use paper that has been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity conditions. For details about the proper way to store paper, see "Paper Storage", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Misfeeds occur frequently.

The paper is too thick or too thin.

  • Use recommended paper. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

  • Select a proper paper thickness for the paper. For details about the proper paper thickness, see "Tray Paper Settings", Connecting the Machine/ System Settings.

Misfeeds occur frequently.

The copy paper is wrinkled or has been folded/creased.

  • Cut folded or wrinkled areas off the paper roll.

  • Replace cut paper that is folded or wrinkled.

Misfeeds occur frequently.

Printed paper is being used.

If the paper is curled, load it upside down so that the curled edges face downward.

Misfeeds occur frequently.

Misfeeds in Paper Input Location 2 might occur if a weight of 120 g/m2 or more and a width of more than 841 mm are applied for Coated Paper, GlossyPhoto/SemiGl, and Film (Matted).

If misfeeds occur in Paper Input Location 2, use Paper Input Location 1.

Copy paper becomes creased.

The paper is damp.

Copy paper becomes creased.

The paper is damp.

Replace the paper with new paper. Cut 1,000 mm (40 inches) from the paper before copying again.

Copy paper becomes creased.

The paper is too thin.

Use recommended paper. For details about recommended paper, see "Recommended Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

You cannot combine several functions.

Selected functions cannot be used together.

Check the combination of functions, and then make the settings again. For details about combination of functions, see "Function Compatibility", Copy/ Document Server.

When sorting, the pages are divided into two blocks.

The memory became full in the middle of sorting and the pages were delivered in two blocks.

Change the setting for [Memory Full Auto Scan Restart] in [Copier / Document Server Features]. For details about setting the "Memory Full Auto Scan Restart", see "Input / Output", Copy/ Document Server.

The copy is grayed out or a text pattern appears in the background of the copy.

You have copied a copy-guarded document protected from unauthorized copying.

Images are skewed.

The original was not set straightly.

Set the original so that it is squarely aligned with the original guides. For details about how to set originals, see "Placing Originals", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Images are skewed.

The paper is feeding in at a slant.

Load the paper correctly. For details about loading paper, see "Loading Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Edges of sheets are creased.

The paper is damp.

You are using non-recommended paper.

An improper paper thickness is selected.

Select a proper paper thickness for the paper. For details about the proper paper thickness, see "Tray Paper Settings", Connecting the Machine/ System Settings.

Original and copy size does not match.

Dampness can cause paper to stretch.

Adjust the Fine Magnification setting, and then scan the original again. For details about Fine Magnification, see "Fine Magnification", Copy/ Document Server.

Copies shift sideways.

The paper roll is not set correctly.

Set the paper roll correctly, making sure it is straight and not loose. For details about loading paper, see "Loading Paper", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Copies shift sideways.

The original does not match the size in the original table setting.

Set originals correctly. For details about how to set originals, see "Placing Originals", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Copies shift sideways.

The paper is not set correctly in the paper bypass location.

Make sure the right corner of the paper is aligned with the paper set position on the paper bypass location. For details about loading paper into the paper bypass location, see "Loading Paper into the Paper Bypass Location", Paper Specifications and Adding Paper.

Copies shift in the direction of the original feed (or opposite) direction.

Adjust Print Position or Margin Adjustment mode is selected.

Cancel Adjust Print Position or Margin Adjustment mode. For details about these modes, see "Margin Adjustment" and "Adjust Print Position", Copy/ Document Server.

Copies are shorter than the selected size, or cut off before the end.

In "Double Copies" mode, parts of the original image are not copied.

Combination of original and copy paper is not correct.

Specify the paper size again. For example, select A3Landscape for A4Portrait originals. For details about the settings for "Double Copies" mode, see "Double Copies", Copy/ Document Server.

In "Image Repeat" mode, the original image is not copied repeatedly.

You selected copy paper the same size as the originals, or you did not select the proper reproduction ratio.

Select copy paper larger than the originals or select the proper reproduction ratio.

Combine

Problem

When using "Combine", parts of the image are not copied.

You specified a reproduction ratio that does not match the sizes of the originals and copy paper.

When you specify a reproduction ratio using Manual Paper Select mode, make sure the ratio matches the originals and the copy paper. Select the correct reproduction ratio before using Combine mode. For details about Combine mode, see "Combined Copying", Copy/ Document Server.

Document Server

Problem

Cannot access file.

  • The file is password protected.

  • The entered password is not correct.

For details about password protected files, see Security Guide.

You cannot find out what is stored in a file.

You may not be able to ascertain the contents of a file simply from the file name.

You can switch the Select File screen between the [List] and [Thumbnails] display to check the file information.

  • [List] display

    The User Name, File Name, and Date of storage are shown.

  • [Thumbnails] display

    An image of the stored file appears.

Memory frequently becomes full.

The Document Server memory is full.

Delete unnecessary files. On the file selection display, select unnecessary files, and then press [Delete File]. If this does not increase available memory, do the following:

  • Switch to the scanner screen, and then delete unnecessary files stored under the scanner function.

  • Switch to the printer screen, and then delete unnecessary files stored under Sample Print, Locked Print, Hold Print, or Stored Print.

“Cannot display preview of this page.” appears, and you cannot check the thumbnail image.

The image data may have been corrupted.

Press [Exit] to display the preview screen without a thumbnail.

If the selected document contains several pages, press [Switch] on the "Display Page" area to change the page, and then a preview of the next page will appear.
