Connecting to the IEEE 1284 Interface

This section explains how to connect an IEEE 1284 interface cable to the IEEE 1284 interface board.

CAUTION

  • For users outside of North America: Properly shielded and grounded cables and connectors must be used for connections to a host computer (and/or peripheral) in order to meet emission limits.

  • For users in North America: Properly shielded and grounded cables and connectors must be used for connections to a host computer (and/or peripheral) in order to meet FCC emission limits.

1Make sure the main power switch on the printer is off.

2Turn off the main power switch of the host computer.

You might have to use a conversion adapter to connect the cable to the interface. For details about acquiring a conversion adapter, contact your sales or service representative.

4Connect the other end of the cable to the interface connector on the host computer.

Before connecting the cable to the computer, check the shape of the connector. Connect the cable firmly.

5Turn on the main power switch of the printer.

6Turn on the host computer.

When using Windows operating system, a printer driver installation screen might appear when the computer is turned on. If this happens, click [Cancel] on the screen.

Note

  • This printer does not come with a IEEE 1284 interface cable. Make sure you purchase the appropriate cable for the printer (connector shape) and your computer.

  • Use a five meter (16.4 foot) or shorter IEEE 1284 compatible cable whose performance is guaranteed on the host computer.

  • For details about how to turn on the main power switch, see Turning On/Off the Power.

  • For details about installing the printer driver, see "Installing the Printer Driver for a Local Connection", Driver Installation Guide.
