Printer Features

1After creating a document, open the printing preferences screen in the document's native application.

For details about displaying the printing preferences screen, see Displaying the printing preferences screen from an application.

2Select [Printer Features] in the pop-up menu.

3In the "Feature Sets:" menu, select the appropriate set of features to display the items to be set.

4Set the convenient print functions.

  • To set the toner saving function, select a toner saving mode in the "Print Mode:" pop-up menu.

    Select [Off] when printing documents containing images such as photographs with fine gradation in tone.

    Select [Edge Smoothing] to improve the print quality of text and graphics by smoothing jagged outer edges.

    Select [Toner Saving 1] to reduce toner consumption during printing.

    To further reduce toner consumption, select [Toner Saving 2]. The output becomes lighter in density, while the life of the toner cartridge becomes longer.

  • To set the staple function, select the output tray to deliver the printed sheets in the "Destination:" pop-up menu, and then select the staple position in the "Staple:" pop-up menu.

  • To set the punch function, select the output tray to deliver the printed sheets in the "Destination:" pop-up menu, and then select the punch hole position in the "Punch:" pop-up menu.

  • To set the watermarks function, select a watermark in the "Watermark:" pop-up menu.

    In the "Watermark Text:", "Watermark Font:", "Watermark Size:", "Watermark Angle:", and "Watermark Style:" pop-up menus, select the text, font, size, angle, and style of the watermark as necessary.

  • To set the banner page function, select [On] in the "Banner Page:" pop-up menu.

    In the "Banner Page Input Tray:" and "Banner Page Paper Type:" pop-up menus, select the paper tray and paper type to be used for printing banner pages as necessary.

5Change any other print settings as necessary.

6Start printing.

Other setting items in [Printer Features]

The following setting items are available in addition to convenient print features:

Description

Fit to Paper:

The document is automatically reduced or enlarged to match the paper size selected.

  • Prompt User

    The print job is performed with the size of document to be printed unchanged.

  • Nearest Size and Scale

    If the paper size is smaller than the selected paper size, the driver reduces the print size.

    If the paper size is larger than the size of document to be printed, the print job is not adjusted to fit the paper size.

  • Nearest Size and Crop

    The print job is performed regardless of any differences between the selected and actual paper size. However, the print job is not adjusted to fit the paper size.

Dithering:

Select a dithering pattern suitable for the document image.

  • Auto

    Automatically configures the best dithering method depending on the appearance of the document to print.

  • Photographic

    Performs dithering using a pattern appropriate for photographs.

  • Text

    Performs dithering using a pattern appropriate for text.

  • User Setting

    Select this when printing images set in half tone in an application.

Image Smoothing:

Select whether or not to perform image smoothing, or specify the threshold resolution to apply smoothing.

Rotate by 180 degrees:

Select whether or not to rotate the image by 180 degrees when printing.

Orientation Override:

Select this setting when paper orientation cannot be specified in some applications. If data is rotated in an unwanted direction on the output page, use this setting to specify the data orientation to be applied when printing.

Paper Type:

Select the paper type to use.

Destination:

Select the output tray to which the printed paper is delivered.
