Preparing Print Server

This section explains how to configure the machine as a Windows network printer. The machine is configured to enable network clients to use it.

Important

  • To change printer properties in the [Printer] or [Printers and Faxes] window, The following access authentications are required depending on Windows OS.

    • Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003/2003 R2/2008/2008 R2: Management access authentication

    • Windows Vista/7: Full Control access authentication

  • To change printer properties in the [Printer] or [Printers and Faxes] window, log in to the file server as an Administrator or member of the PowerUsers group.

1Open the [Printers and Faxes] window from the [Start] menu.

The [Printers and Faxes] window appears.

2Click the icon of the machine you want to use. On the [File] menu, click [Properties]. The printer properties appear.

3On the [Sharing] tab, click [Share this printer].

4To share the machine with users using a different version of Windows, click [Additional Drivers...].

If you have installed an alternative driver by selecting [Share As:] during the printer driver installation, this step can be ignored.

5On the [Advanced] tab, click the [Printing Default...] button. Specify the default values for the printer driver that will be distributed to the client computers, and then click [OK].

6Click [OK], and then close the printer properties.
