Installing the PostScript 3 Printer Driver (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)

This section explains how to install the PostScript 3 printer driver under Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 for use on the WSD port.

Important

  • Manage Printers permission is required to install the driver. Log on as an Administrators group member.

  • You can install the printer driver from the CD-ROM provided with this machine or download it from the manufacturer's Web site.

1Quit all applications currently running.

2On the [Start] menu, click [Computer].

3Click [Network].

4Right-click the machine's icon, and then click [Install].

Driver installation starts automatically.

If the "Device driver software was not successfully installed" message appears, close the message, and then proceed to step 5.

5On the [Start] menu, click [Devices and Printers].

6Click [Add a printer].

7Click [Add a local printer].

8Check the [Use an existing port:] check box, and select WSD port.

9Click [Next].

10Click [Have Disk...].

11Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

If the [AutoPlay] dialog box appears, click the [Close] button.

12Click [Browse...], and then specify a location for the printer driver.

If the CD-ROM drive letter is D, the printer driver's source files are stored in "D:\X86 or X64\DRIVERS\PS\XP_VISTA or X64\MUI\DISK1".

13Click [OK] to close the [Install From Disk] window.

14Select the manufacturer and model name of the machine you want to use, and then click [Next].

15Follow the instructions on the screens.

According to your needs, you may change the machine name, configure the machine as a default printer and/or a shared printer, and print a test page.

16Click [Finish].

If installation is successful, the icon of the printer connected to the WSD port is added to the [Devices and Printers] window.

Note

  • The port name that follows "WSD" uses random character strings. It cannot be changed freely.

  • To stop the installation, click [Cancel] before the installation is complete. When re-installing the WSD Port, right-click the machine's icon in the [Network] window, and then click [Uninstall].
