Printing with Parallel Connection

This describes how to install the PCL or PostScript 3 printer driver when using a parallel port.

To use a printer connected using a parallel interface, click [LPT1] when installing the printer driver.

Important

  • To install this printer driver under Windows 2000/XP/Vista, and Windows Server 2003/2003 R2/2008, you must have an account that has Manage Printers permission. Log on as an Administrators group member.

  • You can install the printer driver from the CD-ROM provided with this printer or download it from the supplier's Web site.

  • If your operating system is Windows XP Pro x64, Windows Vista x64, or Windows Server 2003/2003 R2/2008 x64, you must download the printer driver from the manufacturer's Web site. Select this printer and the operating system you are using, and then download it.

Installing the PCL Printer Driver

1Quit all applications currently running.

2Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

The installer starts.

Auto Run may not work with certain operating system settings. If this happens, launch "Setup.exe" on the CD-ROM root directory.

3Select an interface language, and then click [OK].

The default interface language is English.

4Click [PCL Printer Driver].

5The software license agreement appears in the [License Agreement] dialog box.

After reading the agreement, click [I accept the agreement.], and then click [Next >].

6Select the printer driver you want to use in the [Select Program] dialog box.

You can select several printer drivers.

The PCL6 printer driver is installed in the language specified by your operating system.

7Click [Next >].

8Select the [Printer Name] check box to select the printer model you want to use.

The printer name can be changed in the [Change settings for 'Printer Name' ] box.

9Double-click the printer name to display the printer settings.

The details shown in [Comment], [Driver], and [Port] vary depending on the operating system, printer model, and port.

10Check that [LPT1:] is shown in [Port].

11Select the [Default Printer] check box to configure the printer as default.

12Click [Finish].

The printer driver installation starts.

13After the installation is completed, select one of the options to restart the computer either now or later, and then click [Finish].

Restart the computer to complete installation.

Installing the PostScript 3 Printer Driver

1Quit all applications currently running.

2Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

The installer starts.

Auto Run may not work with certain operating system settings. If this happens, launch "Setup.exe" on the CD-ROM root directory.

3Select an interface language, and then click [OK].

The default interface language is English.

The printer driver with the selected language will be installed. The English printer driver is installed when the following language is selected: Suomi, Magyar, Cestina, Polski, Portugues, Russian, Catala, Turkce.

4Click [PostScript 3 Printer Driver].

Add Printer Wizard starts.

Step 5 does not apply for Windows Vista users.

5Click [Next >].

The following procedure depends on your operation system.

Windows 2000:

1[Local printer], and then click [Next >].

A dialog box for selecting the printer manufacturer and model name appears.

2Select [LPT1] at the [Printer Port] dialog box, and then click [Next >].

3Select whether or not to share the printer, and then click [Next >].

4Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install, and then click [Next >].

5Specify whether or not to print a test page, and then click [Finish].

The printer driver installation starts.

Restart the computer to complete installation.

Other than Windows 2000:

1Click [Local printer attached to this computer].

If you are using other than Windows Vista, click [Next >].

2Select the port you want to use, and then click [Next >].

A dialog box for selecting the printer manufacturer and model name appears.

3Select the name of the printer whose driver you want to install, and then click [Next >].

4Click [Close] to close the [Printer Port] dialog box.

5Click [Next >].

6Change the printer name if you want, and then click [Next >].

Step 7 does not apply for Windows Vista users.

7Select whether or not to share the printer, and then click [Next >].

8Specify whether or not to print a test page, and then click [Finish].

The printer driver installation starts.

Restart the computer to complete installation.

Note

  • A user code can be set after the printer driver installation. For information about user code, see the printer driver Help.

  • To stop installation of the selected software, click [Cancel] before installation is complete.

  • A message appears if there is a newer version of the printer driver already installed. If there is, you cannot install the printer driver using Auto Run. If you still want to install the printer driver, use [Add Printer]. See "Messages Displayed When Installing the Printer Driver".
