Configuring the Options

Use the following procedure to configure the printer options using the printer driver. (Note that this procedure is based on Windows XP. The procedure might differ slightly depending on the operating system you are using.)

Important

  • You need administrator permissions to change option settings. Log on as an Administrators group member.

1On the [Start] menu, click [Control Panel], and then click [Printers and Faxes] in the [Printers and Other Hardware] category.

The [Printers and Faxes] window appears.

2Click the icon for this printer, and then select [Properties] on the [File] menu.

The printer properties dialog box appears.

3Click the [Device Settings] tab, and then click [Settings...] in the [Accessories] area.

4Select the attached options, such as the paper trays and finisher.

If the Printer Monitor is active, you can update option information simply by clicking [Update].

5If you want to change the paper settings, click [Paper source tray settings] on the menu list, and then change the paper settings as necessary.

6Click [OK].

The printer properties dialog box reappears.

7Click [OK].

Note

  • When you have finished configuring option settings, be sure to configure paper-related settings such as size, type, and color in the [Paper source tray settings] list.

  • If you have changed option settings by clicking the [Update] button, do not then change the settings again manually. If you have already changed the settings manually, click the [Update] button again to ensure the option settings are correctly configured.

  • If the [Update] button is inactive, the Printer Monitor is not available and bidirectional communication is disabled. To activate the Printer Monitor, see "Activating the Printer Monitor". For details about what is required for bidirectional communication to be enabled, see "Conditions for Bidirectional communication".
